City of Culture

In 2022, Great Yarmouth and East Suffolk Council’s joined forces to apply for the prestigious City of Culture accolade. Their bid needed a brand that represented both regions in an eye-catching memorable way.

“Our bid encompasses the towns of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, with their shared history of connections with the sea, as well as a host of other remarkable locations. There is a rich heritage and culture here – both natural and man-made – stretching along the Suffolk coast from Felixstowe, through Aldeburgh, Southwold and northwards to Winterton-on-Sea, passing through coastal resorts and inland market towns, the Broads National Park and areas of outstanding natural beauty.”

The brand that was developed focussed on the area’s proximity to the sea and being the most easterly point in the UK. The first to see the mornings light, both East Suffolk and Great Yarmouth are uniquely placed to use an identity that represents new beginnings, change and a desire to celebrate a rich cultural heritage.
