Signwriting Course

What I Learnt

It is not as easy as it looks! Like most things, this takes patience and practice. What was really unexpected about it was the tranquillity of the process. Once you understood what was required you ended up in a zone where your brain was preoccupied with the lettering and you could relax and enjoy the experience.

The course was well attended with approx 50 people taking part. They all said similar things to me and really enjoyed learning about the craft. Kieran gave a short introduction to his workshop in which he explained the history and the link with ghost signs before explaining about the resurgence of hand-painted signs. Ghost signs have shown that they truly stand the test of time and will be about for generations after creation.

Does the identity of a place have similar aspects to handwritten signs? – exceeding the life span of an individual and influencing future developments and styles?
